Biography

Derrick Anderson is an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Affairs and Advisor to the President for Innovation at Arizona State University. His research focuses institutional design, especially as it relates to the economic, political and managerial control of knowledge intensive enterprises. He teaches courses in organization theory, public policy and science and technology policy.

His research has been published in a several leading academic journals including the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Public Management Review, Administration in Society, Review of Policy Research, Research in Higher Education and Scientometrics. His opinions have been published in the Deseret News and the Boston Globe. Derrick occasionally speaks with media about issues pertaining to higher education and has been a guest on KJZZ and PBS Eight.

As Advisor to the President for Innovation, Derrick oversees complex institutional projects with assorted partners in business, government, and higher education. He provides opportunity analysis and assessment in areas relating to the ongoing transformation of ASU from an “agency” organizational model to a “public enterprise” model.

He holds BS and MPP degrees from ASU and a PhD from the University of Georgia.
