Biography

Katherine is completing an accelerated master's degree in Biology and Society, as well as a graduate certificate in Public Policy. She completed a BS in both Conservation Biology and Ecology and Political Science at ASU. She is interested in environmental and wildlife policy and how these inform biodiversity outcomes; she hopes to pursue this interest in her career beyond university. She is part of Dr. Leah Gerber's Conservation Innovation Lab, where she conducts research on how agriculture impacts biodiversity in the Peruvian Amazon. She is currently the Program Manager for the Center for Biodiversity Outcomes at ASU. Her anticipated graduation date is summer 2023.

As an undergraduate, she completed an honors thesis titled "Wildlife Wars: An Examination of the Impact of Federal Agricultural Policy on Predator Persecution and Ecosystem Functioning in the United States." Her paper explored the political influences shaping large carnivore conservation in the United States, as well as solutions to human-wildlife conflict and long-term agricultural sustainability. Previously, she worked as a Wildlife Policy intern for the Humane Society of the United States.
