Healthy Spaces in Hot Places

Jennifer Vanos

  • Assistant Professor, University of California-San Diego

Dr. Jennifer Vanos holds an interdisciplinary appointment spanning Human Health and Climate Science between Family Medicine and Public Health and Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Her research involves measurement and modeling of atmospheric and physiologic parameters to understand links between urban climate, design, and human health, with an emphasis on children’s health.

In this talk, Jennifer Vanos will present her research at the intersection of human and environmental health in outdoor spaces. From lessening children’s vulnerability to extreme heat and UV radiation to mitigating heat and improving sustainability initiatives at the 2020 Olympics, Vanos will demonstrate applications of novel technologies to better assess ambient exposures and health risks.
