Biography

Rebecca Logsdon Muenich grew up in the rapidly-urbanizing area of northwest Arkansas where the local conflict between food production and water quality were at the forefront of local and national news. Influenced by these ongoing struggles between human-needs and the environment, she chose to study Biological Engineering at the University of Arkansas where she earned her B.S. degree along with minors in Mathematics and Geology. She completed an MS and PhD in Agricultural & Biological Engineering at Purdue University where her focus was on quantifying ecosystem service trade-offs in agricultural systems. She completed a postdoctoral position at the Graham Sustainability Institute at the University of Michigan focused on addressing the recurrence of harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie. She recently joined Arizona State University as an Assistant Professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. Her focus at ASU is applying her environmental modeling and analysis expertise to evaluate trade-offs at the food-energy-water nexus. She is currently working on projects to assess the environmental impacts of agriculture and to evaluate the trade-offs between urban and agricultural land uses.
