Innovations in Sustainable Food Systems: Improving Youth Engagement and Entrepreneurship on the Farm and Beyond

The aging of farmers – in the US and globally – has been identified as one of the major structural and policy challenges facing the future of food security. As the older generation retires, are the Millennials willing and ready to take over the food security challenges? The imminent process of transition offers a window of opportunity to create a transformative vision of agriculture that is strategically geared towards the challenges we face in the future, including climate uncertainties, growing population and urbanization pressures, energy competition and resource scarcities. This workshop will identify emerging priorities and develop actionable plans for developing capacity of youth in agriculture.

Your registration fee includes a highly interactive workshop format, where participants will exchange ideas and best practices, with a goal to develop more effective training programs and proposals for impactful, on-the-ground work to engage and inspire younger generations. The fee also includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, two site visits and access to conference materials.

This workshop is presented by ASU's Food Systems Transformation Initiative and UCP-SARnet, an ASU-based global network that engages in education and social action research to alleviate global poverty and promote food security. For more information about the workshop, visit foodsystems.asu.edu.
