Introduction to Composting Programs Workshop for Students

Risa Weinberger

  • Certified Manager of Composting Programs, SWANA

Do You See Garbage as a Resource?

ASU's School of Sustainability is pleased to partner with the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) to offer a unique opportunity for students to explore the science and practice of the composting industry.

Covering the first four chapters of SWANA’s Managing Composting Programs certification (a $1,300 value), this one-day workshop begins with an understanding of composting’s place in solid waste management and progresses to compost uses, markets, and quality — discounted to $249 for students only.

This practical training presents biological principles of composting and examines different compost methods, techniques, and technologies—a great introduction for upcoming environmental engineers or eco-enthusiasts who are interested in the composting field.

SWANA is the leading source of solid waste education for facility policy-makers, managers, owners and operators, and industry consultants in North America. Thousands of solid waste professionals have participated in SWANA training programs.

Risa Weinberger is a licensed professional engineer in Texas with over 30 years of experience in consulting to both public and private clients, nationwide. She holds a Class A Solid Waste Technician Letter of Competency in Texas and is a Certified Manager of Composting Programs by SWANA and the USCC.

Advance registration is required and is limited to students. This class has been canceled.
