On April 25 and May 12, Nepal was struck by massive earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.3 magnitude and hundreds of aftershocks. The aftermath has been devastating to this Himalayan nation, the birthplace of Buddha and home to Mount Everest. Over 9,000 people have died and 1.8 million people have been severely affected.

Nepal is home to two of the world's most resilient groups: the Sherpas and the Gurkhas. In that spirit of resiliency, over 50,000 young people have self-mobilized to bring aid and relief and consolation to the thousands affected.

In this presentation, two School of Sustainability faculty members, both from Nepal, will describe the human and cultural impacts of this national tragedy, describe the long-term rebuilding of this mountain nation, and tell us how our sustainability community can help.

A Nepalese lunch will be served.
