The Future We Are Choosing: Surviving the Climate Crisis
Christiana Figueres
- Former Executive Secretary, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change; Founding Partner, Global Optimism, Ltd.
Christiana Figueres is a Costa Rican citizen and was the executive secretary of the UN's Framework Convention on Climate Change from 2010 to 2016. During her tenure, Figueres brought together national and sub-national governments, corporations and activists, financial institutions and NGOs to deliver the historic Paris Agreement on climate change, in which 195 sovereign nations agreed on a path forward to limit future global warming to well below 2 degrees C. For this achievement, Figueres has been credited with forging a new brand of collaborative diplomacy.
Figueres is a founding partner of Global Optimism, a purpose-driven enterprise focused on social and environmental change. She is currently the convenor of Mission 2020, vice chair of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, while continuing to serve her one and only boss, the global atmosphere.
In this Wrigley talk, Figueres will draw upon her new book The Future We Choose to address the climate emergency, the critical nature of the 2020 decade, and what we need to do to make the right choices.
