Biography
Liza's research interests stem from her focus as a sociologist and her experiences as a community organizer, firefighter and first responder. In the general sense, she is fascinated by the way human systems respond and adapt to extreme stress, especially natural and technological disasters. She is particularly interested in exploring the gaps between academic knowledge-generation enterprises, national and local policy, and the lived experiences and expertise of disaster responders 'on the ground'. Her research focuses on combined natural-technological hazards, including extreme heat and power outages in the Southwest.
