Mobile home residents are at increased risk for extreme heat: 30% of indoor deaths occur in trailers/RVs/mobile homes. Currently, mobile home communities comprise 6% of all homes in Maricopa County. This pilot project seeks to address extreme heat adaptation among vulnerable populations living in trailers/mobile homes.

The project goals are focused on increasing awareness in this vulnerable population and performing a deeper analysis of the risk through a series of initiatives. First, we will organize two training workshops for residents, community partners, volunteers and researchers to highlight heat safety and precautionary behaviors. Next, we will disseminate surveys to be completed by residents. From these surveys, we anticipate learning more about challenges that residents face and effective inputs to mitigate risk of heat-related morbidity/mortality. Lastly, based upon research findings we will develop and provide toolkits highlighting mobile home-specific adaptations, mitigations and resources. We expect the toolkits to increase knowledge regarding extreme heat safety and community resources utilization.
