Biography

Andrew Marcus is an assistant research professor at the Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology.  Marcus obtained his BS in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University (2001), MS in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern (2003), and PhD in Environmental Engineering from Arizona State University (2009).  He focuses on mathematical modeling of microbiological systems in the environment, engineered systems, and human gut. His interests include developing kinetics and thermodynamics models that explain microbial physiology, biofilm models that describe interactions and functions of microorganisms in a community, and process-based models that describe transformation of a system driven by microorganisms.  Marcus’s collaborative work includes modeling the human gut, uranium reduction in ground water, photobioreactors and microbial electrochemical cells.
