Biography

Francisco Salamanca is currently an assistant research professor in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Arizona State University. Francisco was born in the wonderful and touristic island of Mallorca (Spain) in the Mediterranean Sea. Always motivated by how nature works, Francisco studied physics at the Universitat de las Illes Balears, and afterwards moved to Madrid (Spain) where he completed his Ph.D. in 2010.

After a year as a postdoctoral research scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, he came to Arizona State University as a postdoctoral research scientist in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences in 2012. His research focuses on how air-urban interactions affect the weather and climate at local and regional scales. The tasks to investigate these topics include parameterizing the physical interactions, running atmospheric models in supercomputers, and analyzing meteorological observations.
