Biography
Matt is a senior project manager with the Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Service at Arizona State University. As part of that role, he manages operations at the Sustainable Phosphorus Alliance, a multi-stakeholder effort to promote the efficient use, recovery and recycling of the key nutrient phosphorus in the food system.
Prior to his current role, Matt served as a senior research scientist for The Sustainability Consortium, where his work focused on developing metrics used by retailers to assess the sustainability of their supply chains.
Matt completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Chemistry at Colorado School of Mines and worked on projects for the Sustainable Algal Biofuels Consortium at ASU. He received his PhD in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering in 2011 and his Master of Science in Chemical and Environmental Engineering in 2001, both from the University of Arizona, where he also worked for 6 years as a molecular biologist.
Matt contributed to the development of Equitable Origin's EO100 Standard for energy development projects, previously chaired the county Green Party in Tucson (2000), and was a member of the Green Fund Committee that oversees sustainability efforts at the University of Arizona. He oversees the annual Phosphorus Forum conferences and has run numerous workshops, panels, and field tours on sustainability, including presentations at GreenBiz and the PEF World Forum.
