Biography

Cowling is a research professor in the Botany Department at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province. He has published extensively—in the scientific and popular literature—on the ecology and conservation of Mediterranean-climate and arid biomes. He is widely acclaimed for his contribution to the theory and application of conservation science.
