Biography
Yuqiang Bi is an environmental geochemist and an assistant research professor at Arizona State University. His doctoral and postdoctoral research has employed interdisciplinary approaches across environmental chemistry, geoscience, and materials science to understand fundamental geochemical reactions that affect the fate and transport of metal contaminants and nanomaterials in natural and engineered aquatic systems.
His current research interests are motivated by the need to protect water and land resources from the increasing pressure of energy extraction, climate change, and population growth. He has utilized bench-scale experiments and geochemical modeling, coupled with cutting-edge X-ray and electron beam techniques to examine: (1) microbially-influenced metal reduction and its impact on uranium reactivity, (2) removal of radium from shale-gas produced brines, (3) presence and transformation of engineered nanomaterials in freshwater systems.
Education
- PhD, Environmental Engineering, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, 2014
- MS, Soil Science, North Carolina State University-Raleigh
- BS, Environmental Science, Nanjing University
