Biography
Barbara McCutchan, is a sustainability expert with 20 plus years of experience in the packaging and forestry industry sector. She has a strong record as a catalyst for change in corporate responsibility and global sustainability, including integrating sustainability into organizations and responsible sourcing with attention to both environmental and social issues. She brings to her instructional experience with Virginia Tech’s Executive Master of Natural Resources program to the MSL program. In addition to her academic work, she consults in several capacities at Sustainable & Responsible Solutions LLC and Packaging & Technology Integrated Solutions.
Previously, McCutchan was director, enterprise stewardship & sustainability for MeadWestvaco Corporation (MWV), notably responsible for MWV being included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) initially and for five consecutive years. Prior to having corporate responsibilities for sustainability, her research areas were in the genetics of loblolly pine for the purpose of breeding trees to increase forest productivity in southeastern US and Brazil. McCutchan received her Ph.D. in Forestry and Statistics from NCSU, Raleigh, NC, her Master of Science in Forestry also from NCSU, and her Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of California, Berkeley, CA.
