Urban Sustainability Best Practices & Case Studies
Urban Sustainability Best Practices and Case Studies is a graduate and senior level course in the School of Sustainability designed by Dr. Nalini Chhetri and advised by Anne Reichman, SCN Director.
In this course students work directly with municipalities and public-sector agencies to document, analyze, and research best practices, compare case studies, and provide insights on a variety of sustainability topics. - Fall 2017: Communications, linear economy, water planning, and alternative fuels.
- Fall 2016: Solid waste and social sustainability
- Fall 2015: Complete streets, best desert parks management practices, urban forests, climate vulnerability assessments, University Sustainability Practices at ASU, water conservation, green governments, air quality, and housing.
- Fall 2014: Household hazardous waste, low impact development, green building programs, bioremediation, feedstock consolidation solutions, impacts of energy disclosure ordinances, circular economy, waste diversion, demonstration gardens, and constructed wetlands.
Policy and Governance in Sustainable Systems
SOS 321 Policy and Governance in Sustainable Systems is an undergraduate level course in the School of Sustainability taught and designed by Dr. Michael Schoon.
Municipal clients present problems to students who provide research focusing on environmental, economic, and social solutions. The links below contain the student research and presentations.
- Spring 2018: Zero waste for the Arizona State Fair, water conservation for HOAs, composting biosolids options, and bus rapid transit.
- Spring 2017: Water conservation, green infrastructure, multi-family housing waste management, and climate action plans.
- Spring 2016: Water conservation and incentives, water supply solutions, and recycling contamination, education, and solutions.
- Spring 2015: Farmers markets, urban forestry, water conservation, and green waste.
