First teacher workshops

This week we conducted the first of what we hope will be many teacher workshops. Erin and Mark are the two fellows who are working together with Mountain Ridge to determine which sustainability projects proposed by students should get funding through the school’s Science Foundation of Arizona grant.

In order to prepare teachers so that they may best assist students in coming up with sustainability project proposals, all of our fellows went over to talk about sustainability and how it applies to MetroTech. Discussing things such as the three pillars of sustainability, and the idea of integrating these throughout the classroom, campus, and community, teachers were guided through activities that helped them better understand the fundamentals of sustainability such as systems thinking, trade offs, and stakeholders. The workshop ended on a high note as teachers eagerly discussed how they would use their new information in the classroom.
