KSH-ASU-Haarlemmermeer Sustainability Workshop

Outreach fellows Omaya Ahmad and Jen Fuller traveled to Hoofddorp, Netherlands to facilitate a sustainability workshop at Katholieke Scholengenmeenschap Hoofddorp (KSH) for three days in May 2013. KSH is a secondary school with a population that ranges from middle to high school aged students. The workshop was commissioned by ASU’s new Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives in conjunction with their Global Sustainability Solutions Center in Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands. Omaya and Jen referred to their GK-12 experience, which largely involved the introduction of sustainability to educators in the Phoenix area, to build the workshop program. Each workshop day focused on one major theme (sustainability at the curriculum, campus, or community level) where participants learned methods for sustainability inclusion and were given the opportunity to design plans for their school’s own sustainability initiative. KSH now has a diverse group that is equipped and committed to incorporating sustainability into the school’s exploratory tract curriculum and to facilitation of a community wide event during the Netherland’s national sustainability week in October of this year.
