Emma Brenneman is a master’s student in the Water as an Integrated System and Environment (WISE) research lab with Dr. Heejun Chang at the Department of Geography at Portland State University. She attended the University of Oregon as an undergraduate where she studied Spanish literature and second language acquisition and teaching, as well as an environmental geography. After two years of serving with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps throughout the Southwest US and the Clark Public Utilities StreamTeam in Washington State, Emma is increasingly interested in how both the built environment and natural environment can build resilience to land use change and climate change. Her current research looks at hydrologic trends and relationships of streamflow and temperature in urbanizing watersheds in the Portland metropolitan area. Other research focuses urban social vulnerability to flooding and extreme heat, as well as analyzing the biophysical and sociodemographic factors associated with green stormwater infrastructure in US cities.
