- Phoenix, Arizona - Chief Sustainability Officer, City of Phoenix
The City of Phoenix selected Mark Hartman, a native of Canada, to become the first Chief Sustainability Officer in June 2014 thanks to his extensive experience in corporate and community sustainability, including his almost decade-long experience as the City of Vancouver Green Building Program Manager. Mark was aiding Vancouver’s ambition to become the greenest city by 2020 by heading the city’s carbon neutral building strategy and its green building code. Now that he is in Phoenix, Mark, a LEED accredited professional and M.B.A. graduate, is using the lessons he learned in Canada to lead the effort in making Phoenix a global frontrunner in sustainability, and as of recently, the next steps are to add social and economic aims to the 2050 Environmental Goals passed in April 2016.
