Biography

Charles Perrings is co-director of School of Life Sciences Ecoservices Group—a group researching the interactions between society and the biophysical environment.

He has three main research interests. First, he studies the anthropogenic causes of biodiversity change, and the consequences it has for health, food supply and other ecosystem services. Second, he researches the effects of globalization on the dispersal of pests and diseases. Third, he investigates the role of science in international environmental policy.

Professor Perrings has served with DIVERSITAS, and the U.S. Presidents Council of Advisors on Science and Technology working group on biodiversity and ecosystem services; and he represented theInternational Council of Science in international efforts to establish the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. He has published 13 books and around 200 scientific papers.
