Biography

In his research and teaching, Daniel Fischer casts an educational perspective on the question of how sustainable consumption can be promoted through communication and learning. One focus of Fischer and his research group SuCo2 is to better understand the role consumption plays in satisfying human needs, the social and ecological effects it has, and how human beings can be encouraged and enabled to take up more sustainable lifestyles. His recent research has examined the impact of whole-institution approaches and participation on student learning and explored the contributions that innovative teaching and learning strategies like mindfulness, storytelling, or citizen science can make in this respect.

Daniel Fischer is a trained primary and secondary school teacher, holds a Master's degree in educational management and school development, and a PhD in sustainability science. Before joining the Arizona State University School of Sustainability as an assistant professor for sustainability education in August 2018, he served as an assistant professor for sustainability science at Leuphana University of Lueneburg in Germany.
