Biography

Dr. Erin Redman was the program manager for the National Sustainability Teacher’s Academy. Prior to joining the Walton Initiatives team, she spent two years working as an assistant professor in sustainability at the National University of Mexico (UNAM) in León, Mexico. During her time in Mexico, Dr. Redman researched household waste behaviors, associated values, norms and attitudes regarding sustainable waste practices. She also taught undergraduate sustainability courses in Spanish, worked on an Improved Cook Stove project and continued her research on innovative sustainability education methods. Dr. Redman holds a doctorate in sustainability from the School of Sustainability at ASU. Dr. Redman’s doctoral research was focused on educating for sustainability through the integration of behavioral science and innovative pedagogy. She primarily worked with low-income middle and high school students as well as K-12 teachers and targeted food and waste behaviors. Prior to pursuing her doctorate, she received her master of science in sustainable systems and a bachelor of science in biology. In addition to her passion for sustainability education, she has pursued numerous opportunities to live, work and contribute to sustainability in developing countries. One such passion project is her FAVE bag project in which she developed women-run cooperatives in rural El Salvador to make reusable produce bags that replace the small, disposable produce bags often found in the aisles of grocery stores.
