Biography

Dr. Maracas is Program Director in the Energy, Power and Adaptive Systems (EPAS) Program within the Division of Electrical, Communications, and Cyber Systems (ECCS) at the National Science Foundation. His program is "Energy & Power Technologies" for renewable energy collection, conversion and interfacing to the electric power grid. This Program strongly supports educational curricula reform in Energy and Power Systems. At NSF, George is currently actively coordinating Federal Interagency Programs in Solar Energy Technologies and Sustainability. He has established university research programs in nanotechnology, advanced materials, optoelectronic devices and solar power. At Motorola he was Founder of Motorola Life Sciences and Director of Nanotechnology.

Dr. Maracas received the Motorola Master Innovator award, was elected to the Motorola Scientific Advisory Board Associates (SABA), received the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator award, received the Green Pioneer Award for his contributions to furthering research, education and the Solar economy in AZ and the NSF Director's Award for work in Accelerating Innovation Research.He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has authored/co-authored over 110 technical publications and presentations, 2 book chapters and holds 32 issued US patents.
