Biography

Katie Pine is an assistant professor in the School for the Science of Health Care Delivery at Arizona State University. Her work intersects human-centered computing, organization studies, and science and technology studies. Her research centers on data practices: the situated social, technical, and organizational practices through which data are created, managed, and deployed. Current projects include: researching how the design and implementation of electronic health records and patient monitoring technologies shape and change obstetrical practice; a multi-sited ethnography of measurement-based accountability and quality improvement processes in healthcare; and a study of environmental citizen sensing projects focusing on how citizens make their air quality data actionable. She has a PhD in Social Ecology from University of California-Irvine and worked previously as a postdoctoral research engineer in the UXR group at Intel Labs, as an assistant project scientist in the Department of Informatics at the University of California-Irvine, and as academic coordinator for the Salton Sea Initiative.

  • PhD, Social Ecology (concentration in Environmental Analysis and Design), University of California-Irvine, 2012
