Biography

Peter W. Jurutka is a professor in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and a professor of basic medical sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, where he is a founding faculty member. He joined Arizona State University in 2004 after serving on the faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson where he also conducted postdoctoral research.

As an active member of several scientific research societies, Professor Jurutka’s laboratory provides students with research opportunities that have led to over 200 published scholarly abstracts and papers co-authored by his ASU students and focused on such topics as the fight against cancer and a greater understanding of diseases such as post-menopausal osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, autism, IBS, and depression, as well as identification of nutrients/vitamins in the human diet to combat various health maladies as part of sustainable diets. He has received a number of prestigious honors, including the Norwich-Eaton Young Investigator Research Award for significant contributions to the field of bone and mineral research, the John Haddad Young Investigator Award presented by Advances in Mineral Metabolism and the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, and the ASU Faculty Achievement Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Student Mentoring.

His research has been widely published in peer-reviewed publications, including JBC, PNAS, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Cancer Research, Nutrition Reviews, Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, and Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
