Urban Outreach, a program of the Tempe First United Methodist Church, provides vital support services to homeless and working poor people of Tempe with the goal of helping them move from crisis to stability. They offer food, shelter, showers, medical, mental and spiritual resources, as well as coordinating care with other organizations.
David V. Summers is senior pastor of Tempe First United Methodist Church and has been a United Methodist pastor for 25 years (8 in Tempe). He received his PhD in sociology from Yale and worked as a management consultant for Fortune 100 companies on projects of strategic planning, innovation, and organizational change.
Kim Van Nim Wegen is the director of Urban Outreach at First United Methodist Church of Tempe. She oversees services for Home At Last, an innovative housing first model that is a collaborative effort of the Valley of the Sun United Way, the City of Tempe, and Tempe’s faith community. She holds a master’s degree in social work from ASU.
