Understanding public perceptions and attitudes toward issues such as climate change, water management, drought response, flood mitigation, and heat response is critical to explain and predict individual and collective behaviors. Social science knowledge about attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors is also necessary to inform successful interventions, policies, and solutions for sustainability. During this briefing, an interdisciplinary panel of faculty, research professionals, and graduate students will discuss current research on attitudes and perceptions and implications for public policy. Topics include climate change risk perceptions, attitudes toward water management strategies, social and behavioral influences on individual heat adaptation behaviors, and perceptions of residential landscape management.
