This is a student focused event.

In his role at the Bullitt Foundation, Denis Hayes seeks to transform the major cities of the Pacific Northwest into global models of sustainability. Previously, he was an adjunct professor of engineering at Stanford, a Silicon Valley lawyer, director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, special assistant for energy and the environment to the Governor of Illinois, national coordinator of the first Earth Day, and founder of the Earth Day Network.

Amanda Sturgeon, FAIA and LEED Fellow, leads the International Living Future Institute in working to make our communities socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically restorative. She joined the Institute in 2010 after a 15 year career as an architect for sustainability-focused projects and as a founding board member of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council. In 2015, she was named one of the top ten most powerful women in sustainability.

Hayes and Sturgeon will hold an informal, interactive discussion with students interested in careers in the environmental arena. They will touch on conventional and unconventional opportunities and pathways to personally thrive while earning a living reconciling humanity with nature. Each will pull from their unique careers as national leaders in environmental fields.
