Global Futures Special Seminar
Gathering the Gatherers:
Bridging Practice, Policy, and Politics of Hawai‘i Non-Timber Forest Products

Katie L. Kamelamela

  • Principal Investigator, Indigenous Local Knowledge of Drought in Hawai‘i

Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) - from fruit, flowers, leaves, and fungi - play a critical role for communities in the United States and across the globe.

In Hawai'i, NTFPs are used extensively and continue to be important to subsistence practices and/or make major contributions to cash economies.

However, implementation of policy procedures that weave place-based observations, experiences, and intergenerational engagement at the state level is lacking.

Join us for a virtual seminar led by Katie L. Kamelamela, who informs us of the potential of Indigenous stewardship in shaping natural and productive landscapes and how future NTFP research goals inform policy decisions affecting Hawai'i forests.
