Edward B. Barbier

Edward Barbier is a leading economic thinker and widely published author on the role of natural resources in economic development and on policies for promoting green and sustainable growth. In 2015, Barbier was inaugurated as a Fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.

The world economy today is facing major threats, including increasing environmental degradation and a growing gap between rich and poor. In this talk, Barbier argues that these two threats are symptomatic of a growing structural imbalance in all economies – with nature exploited to create wealth — and suggests ways this imbalance may be overcome.
