Patrick Phelan, is on leave from Arizona State University to assist the US Department of Energy in an applied R&D program focused on energy efficiency in buildings .He has been an ASU faculty member since 1996, with a previous stint as an National Science Foundation Program Director.
Beginning with her career in architecture and specializing in lighting and human behaviors, Nora Wang has 10 years of research experience in energy-efficient buildings.
In this talk, Phelan and Wang will discuss the future of buildings, beyond zero energy and zero carbon. The Department of Energy and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are developing metrics and targets to characterize typical US buildings 100 years from now, accounting for energy, GHG emissions, water, waste, health, productivity, and interactions among buildings, the broader community, and utilities.
