Perspectives on Sustainability
From Around the World
Mary Jane Parmentier
- Clinical Associate Professor, School for the Future of Innovation in Society, College of Global Futures
Between 2013 and 2018, more than 150 ASU students studied abroad in Europe, North Africa, and Latin America with faculty director Mary Jane Parmentier, exploring the complexity of sustainability and sustainable development in diverse social, political, and cultural contexts.
As a learning community abroad, much has been learned about the differing priorities of societies around the world, different linguistic and cultural perceptions of sustainability and sustainable development, and differing assumptions about what needs to be sustained and what needs to be developed.
This session will present fascinating photos and ideas generated by the students and faculty members on these programs and explore what we have learned.
