Can Supply Chains Save the World?

Robin Barr

  • Director, The Forest Trust Americas

International corporations' drive for production and profit are often blamed as the cause of many of the world's environmental and social problems. Could they also be the solution? Over the last 15 years, The Forest Trust (TFT) has been working with international companies on how to use their supply chains to drive solutions to issues such as illegal logging, deforestation, land-grabbing, forced labor and others. This talk will provide an overview of how TFT is working and what they are learning along the way.

As TFT’s director overseeing the Americas operations, Robin Barr works with international brands, multinational commodity processors and producing companies in the palm oil, pulp and paper packaging and solid wood sectors to develop responsible global supply chains. Prior to managing the Americas, Robin worked extensively with TFT’s programmes in Southeast Asia, including supporting forest managers, smallholders and large-scale commodity producers in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Laos to implement No Deforestation and No Exploitation commitments. Robin has over ten years’ international experience working with companies to procure responsibly produced materials and achieve corporate sustainability and social responsibility goals. She holds a Master of Environmental Management degree from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
