Carbon Mitigation, Carbon Reduction, and the Global Challenge of Clean Fossil Deployment
S. Julio Friedmann
- Chief Energy Innovation Fellow, Lawrence Livermore National Lab
Recently stepping down from his role as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Friedmann was a senior executive at the DOE and is the nation’s expert on carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS). He is an expert on clean-energy technology development and deployment, and has worked in China, India, Canada, the Middle East, and many EU nations.
Friedmann will discuss the global need and challenges with reducing carbon emissions from fossil energy sources, chiefly through CCUS. Framed in the context of the Paris Agreement, power and energy markets, and technology readiness, the talk will focus on the challenges of deploying CCUS in the US and abroad, and why we need technologies that can deliver negative emissions.
Lunch will be provided.
