Student Showcase Spring 2018

Students in the School of Sustainability will be showcasing culminating experience projects during the bi-annual SOS Student Showcase. Please join us as Wrigley Hall opens its doors to highlight student research, projects, coursework, and internships from the Spring 2018 semester.

School of Sustainability Study Abroad Cuba Recap
The School of Sustainability sponsored a Global Intensive Experience for a transdisciplinary group of ASU students to visit Havana, Cuba during Spring Break. The group brought in donated school supplies for a refugee school in Marianao. They also spent a day volunteering by painting, pouring concrete, and cleaning up Muraleando, a former waste dump transformed by the community into an arts and public venue. Join us as our students reflect on what they saw firsthand regarding the impacts of tourism and how they plan to help develop solutions to the challenges that Cuban people are facing.

DCDC Poster Symposium
Poster session Highlighting research conducted by DCDC graduate research assistants enrolled in DCDC’s Community of Graduate Scholars program and undergraduate research fellows enrolled in DCDC’s Internship for Science Practice Integration program.

Students have spent the last semester paired up with local governments to tackle current sustainability issues. Please come join us to see the creative solutions that our students helped develop.

Sustainable Development in Action: SOS 498 Poster Session
Graduate and undergraduate students worked with NGO and university partners in Indonesia and India to address sustainability challenges in the areas of agriculture, ecotourism, solid waste management and sanitation. Please join us to see the creative solutions that they come up with and enjoy some ethnic cuisine (RSVP required by April 20).

Master of Sustainability Solutions (MSUS) Culminating Experience Project Presentations
Students graduating from the MSUS program will be presenting information about the project they chose to focus on as part of their culminating experience.

Open Class Session
SOS 311: Future Thinking and Strategies
10:30am - 11:45am, LSE B04
The event showcases students’ works in thinking about the future and designing decision and strategies. Students apply methods such as scenario planning, decision tree model, multi-criteria decision analysis, and real options to address sustainable development issues. The presented case studies explore possible solutions to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in countries such as Nigeria, The Philippines, Australia, Chile, Egypt, India, Indonesia, and the U.S.

Internship Poster Session and Reception
This event is the celebration and display of some of the incredible work sustainability interns have done this semester. Interns apply their talent and innovative thinking to applied experiences in professional settings including public, private, and educational sectors.
Talk with students while enjoying refreshments, appetizers and desserts.

Join the Sustainability Review for a night of food and fun! We’ll be sharing our favorite stories from the 2017-2018 school year, and hear from an expert about the challenges and solutions for effectively communicating sustainability in journalism. Dinner will be provided.

Sustainability Short-Form Documentary - Peter Byck
Join us for the screening of two short films created by students.

Sleeping Giant:
An endangered gem protected by a sleeping giant lies in Black Canyon City. Residents are dedicated to its preservation and maintenance.

Concrete Change:
How thousands of tons of concrete changed the Colorado River forever, and a look forward at how the next generation can preserve one of the natural wonders of the world.
