ASU-NSF I-Corps™ Lunch + Info Session
Brent Sebold
- Executive Director of Venture Development, Entrepreneurship + Innovation, Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development
I-Corps™ Teams comprise 3 members: PIs, ELs, and Mentors. 1.) Principal Investigators (PIs) are typically ASU-affiliated faculty researchers. 2.) Entrepreneurial Leads (ELs) are typically postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, or other students, staff, or community members. 3.) Mentors are typically sourced from industry and have experience transitioning technologies from academic labs into the marketplace. ASU’s I-Corps™ Team training programs only require PI and EL participation.
Come and learn about how I-Corps™ participating teams go through an assumption/hypothesis-testing, customer-focused discovery process to gather important insights needed to maximize the impact of their innovations. Using Lean Startup methodology, teams are urged “out of the classroom” to conduct interviews, study customer/stakeholder needs, collect feedback, and find partnership opportunities.
It is expected that participants will leave the program with an expanded skill-set and tools to evaluate and translate their research ideas into applicable methods for transformations in their field. ASU-affiliated I-Corps teams who complete future on-campus trainings may be eligible to receive a $2K grant for continued customer discovery efforts. High performing teams who successfully complete the training program could be in a position to gain acceptance into the National I-Corps Program, which provides $50K+ grants for continued customer discovery efforts.
Lunch will be provided.
