Revolutions that Made the Earth

Earth system scientist Tim Lenton is the co-author, along with Andrew Watson, of Revolutions that Made the Earth, a book he considers an antidote to the current string of depressing and apocalyptic books about climate change.
His work identifying the tipping elements in the climate system won the Times Higher Education Award for Research Project of the Year 2008. Lenton is a Fellow of the Linnean Society and a Fellow of the Geological Society.
In this talk, Lenton offers a new historical perspective on how we came to be here and a new synthesis of Earth and life science, which tries to reconcile Gaia and natural selection, to show the way forward for Earth system science.
