Tres Rios Urban Wetland Lab
High school students and university students in ASU's Wetland Ecosystem Ecology Lab research the dynamics of an urban wetland in a desert ecosystem at the Phoenix Tres Rios Sewage Treatment Plant. The constructed wetland was made to simultaneously treat waste water and provide ecosystem services like wildlife habitat and biodiversity. Several high school students from Phoenix joined undergraduate researchers and faculty to run specific tests at the wetland like measuring greenhouse gas emissions and determining a water budget. Dan Childers, sustainability scientist and lab faculty supervisor explains the research and high school student Daniel Loza shares his personal experience while out in the field.
