Before founding Science+Story, Lalasz was The Nature Conservancy's founding director of science communications, a position he created in 2010 after four years as the Conservancy's associate director of digital marketing. He coached dozens of scientists to become better presenters and panelists; developed messaging and outreach strategies for innumerable research papers; developed panel discussion series on society and the environment hosted by the New York Academy of Sciences; and oversaw the rebirth and growth of Cool Green Science, a Conservancy science blog that now attracts 1.5 million unique visitors annually. As the Conservancy's associate director of digital marketing, he directed digital content for all topline organizational channels, including its homepage, blog, Twitter feed and monthly membership email newsletter. The Conservancy's website won two Webby Awards under his leadership.
Lalasz has had a long career as an editor and digital strategist for idea-centered non-profits, including the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Population Reference Bureau and American University. He has also lectured on marketing and communications at Georgetown University's School of Continuing Education.
A longtime freelance writer on the arts and literature, Lalasz has also been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, including The Wall Street Journal, Washingtonian Magazine, the Raleigh News & Observer, and the Washington City Paper.
