Biography

Julie Anand received her Master's of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico. An interdisciplinary thinker and desert lover, she studied Ecology and Evolutionary Biology as an undergraduate before becoming smitten with photography. Having replaced the burden of proof with the celebration of subjectivity, her mixed-media and photographic artworks draw on the ecological principle of interdependency. She questions conventional boundaries including the ones between artistic media, between science and art, and between bodies and their environments. Her Material Histories works were recently featured in the exhibition Defining Sustainability at the Arizona State University Art Museum. She teaches a course called Art 494/598: Art & Ecology.
