Biography
Kevin McHugh is a cultural geographer with interests in geographical thought and theory. His research advances understandings of space, place, landscape, and movement in making and imagining worlds. Kevin is engaged in a series of experiments in thermal and olfactory sensing in rethinking bodies, objects, things, spaces and atmospheres. These critical-aesthetic experiments explore post-phenomenological imaginaries in elemental geographies in light of the Anthropocene. McHugh teaches broadly at the undergraduate and graduate levels, has served on 30 Ph.D. committees and 27 M.A.thesis committees, is active in mentoring students in the Barrett Honors College, and has been a Distinguished Nominee for the ASU Parents Association Professor of the Year Award three times. Kevin served as Associate Director in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, 2011-2014.
