Biography
Nazli is a doctoral candidate in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning (SGSUP) at Arizona State University. Her research interests are in land use / land cover change, sustainable land use and management for food-energy-water systems, socioeconomic modeling for coupled human-environment systems, GIS-based land capability and productivity management. During her PhD, Ishe has been studying the sustainable development of second generation biofuels from cellulosic energy crops under an NSF grant. Her two current research projects combine GIS with socioeconomics. The first explores the ability of urban agriculture to deliver desired sustainability outcomes for the City of Phoenix. This is joint work with another UREx SRN graduate student, Michelle Stuhlmacher, along with Jordan Smith and Matei Georgescu (also of SGSUP), and funded by a graduate grant from UREx SRN. The second is a coupled biogeophysical-economic assessment of bioenergy crop cultivation on marginal agricultural lands. Prior to PhD, I was a consultant specializing in the economics and policy issues of energy, infrastructure, and natural resources industries. I have a BA in management from Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey) and an MSc in finance from Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA).
