Biography
Stephen Young is an expert at Orthoptera identification, identifying Orthoptera specimens intercepted at ports of entry in the United States for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 2014-2020. Several highlights from this time include seeing specimens of rarely collected Orthoptera species (Bucrates lanista, Miogryllus beliz, Nastonotus foreli, etc.), mentoring eight students, and creating a key to intercepted Nemobiinae. In addition to identification work, he also is attempting to discover potential invasion pathways and scenarios for major Orthoptera pests, notably locusts. He took a position with USDA APHIS Veterinary Services in 2020 and continues his work with Orthoptera as an independent scientist.
