Biography
Tim Ohlert is a PhD candidate at the University of New Mexico and a plant community ecologist studying global change impacts on plant communities of the southwestern U.S. He manages drought experiments in the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan deserts in an effort to study patterns of drought sensitivity in arid environments. Along with a team of graduate students at the University of New Mexico, Tim is investigating many aspects of desert ecosystems, including soil crust, bacteria, and fungi, to achieve a comprehensive understanding of these ecosystems. He takes a collaborative approach to science and is involved with the Nutrient Network, Drought Network, and Sevilleta LTER.
