Biography

Elizabeth Cook is an assistant professor in environmental science at Barnard College. Elizabeth is an urban ecosystem scientist with interdisciplinary expertise in social and natural sciences. Her research explores future sustainability and resilience of cities in North and Latin America to changing climate and extreme events through a transdisciplinary urban system science. She works collaboratively with interdisciplinary scientists and local practitioners through participatory methods to envision positive futures and the transitions needed to achieve climate justice. Elizabeth is also Chair-Elect of the Communications and Engagement Section in the Ecological Society of America. She earned her PhD at Arizona State University and was previously awarded a Chilean National Commission on Science and Technology (CONICYT) Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Universidad Austral de Chile, Valdivia. Before joining Barnard, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Urban Ecology in the Environmental Studies Department and the Urban Systems Lab at The New School.
