Research Now: Science for the People 2.0
Donna Gerardi Riordan
- Founder and President, Research Now
We as citizens can reasonably expect that policy makers use "best available science" to make decisions that affect our communities. If there are gaps in the best available science, we have the power to employ a new tool – social crowdfunding – to identify and fund research to fill those gaps in a timely way. In this talk, Riordan will discuss how her organization emerged in response to plans for massive expansion of fossil-fuel exports near Bellingham, Washington.
Riordan drew upon 25 years of experience in science and technology, communications, and education policy in Washington, DC and in California, to create Research Now with the goal of crowdfunding location-specific research to inform policymakers.
Lunch will be provided.
