Kamehameha Schools, a private educational trust dedicated to the education and well-being of Native Hawaiians is also the largest private landowner in Hawaii, with a diverse range of commercial, agricultural and conservation lands across five islands. In this talk, Duarte will discuss how Kamehameha Schools is actively bridging sustainable management of land and cultural resources with educational programming for learners of all ages.
Duarte directs a diverse portfolio of land assets, water resources and educational programs in Hawaii. His interests include hydrology, water management and optimization, indigenous knowledge systems and culture/land/project-based education. He holds degrees in civil and environmental engineering, specializing in hydrology, from Princeton and MIT.
