Biography

Lisa Schmidt is an expert in the sciences of nutrition and clinical health psychology. She holds certification as a yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance, specializing in trauma sensitive, functional yoga and yoga therapy. Working at the intersections of food, mood and mindfulness, Lisa inspires her clients to find their own healing through a holistic and integrative approach by combining nutritional, physical, spiritual, emotional, psychological, and energetic aspects of life. She is a firm believer that a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet combined with a positive sense of self is best for your body as a form of natural medicine.

Lisa holds dual Masters of Science degrees from nationally acclaimed Bastyr University, named by The Princeton Review as one of the 168 best medical schools in the country in the evolving field of natural medicine. Bastyr’s fully accredited nutrition and clinical health psychology degree program is nationally renowned for its rigorous and innovative curriculum, comprehensive clinical training and groundbreaking approach. She is a trained meditator and maintains an active yoga and mindfulness practice.

Lisa is a whole foods nutritionist and a trained mental health counselor. Her training has included 1,000 hours in counseling at a community mental health agency, where she worked with severely mentally ill patients. She spent nearly 1,000 hours as a volunteer program administrator for the Puget Sound VA Medical Center’s MOVE program coaching overweight veterans with health conditions lose weight and improve their chronic illnesses. Lisa spent several hundred hours conducting patient appointments at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health where she worked with clients seeking relief from chronic nutritional conditions, mental health disorders, obesity, irritable bowel syndrome, and food intolerances. Prior to Lisa’s clinical training, she held executive positions with a large health care system and was directly responsible for the health and well being of 50,000 employees. Other corporate experience includes several years as a director of Weight Watchers International, where her innovative approach to change ignited the success of thousands of members over fourteen years.

Lisa’s practice approach is health counseling focused. Her mind, body, spirit approach to mood management and nutrition underscores her belief that the power of nutrition and therapy can heal a person. As a Certified Yoga Instructor with nearly 1,500 hours teaching students of all ages, she incorporates somatic knowledge and body awareness in her healing approach. She sees people as their own expert, and uses techniques and tools to help people fully understand and create the change they desire. Lisa and her clients become partners, working together to recognize and grow strengths while developing healthier lifestyles and coping strategies. Her goal is also to allow you to discover who you really are by understanding your body and psyche’s needs so both are satisfied in a healthier way.
